“We don’t like to say that we grow vines, but that we educate each other and get to know each other. We don’t produce, but live wine. We think we are dealing with the most beautiful art in the world – wine.”
The love for wine production was woven into the consciousness of the Arman family back in the 1880s by Marijan’s great-grandfather Ivan, who planted the first vineyard. His passion and knowledge were passed down from generation to generation. Marijan improved the family tradition of wine production by introducing new technology and knowledge, and in the mid-1990s, the winery’s biggest turnaround occurred, when it began to achieve significant success on the market. Today, Marijan’s daughters Ines and Nina, who have worked with their father since childhood, continue the winemaking journey that began more than 140 years ago.
The family cultivates about 10 hectares of vineyards on the gentle slopes of the western Istrian vineyard, right next to the Mirna river valley. The special feature of this locality is, in addition to the microclimate, a mixture of gray-white soils, the so-called flysch, rich in minerals. It is from these positions and from these old vines that the family produces a separate wine – Malvazija Grand Cru, which was champion in Istria for two years in a row.
In addition to the autochthonous varieties, Istrian Malvasia and Teran, in the winery’s tasting room you can also enjoy international varieties (Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot), to which the local terroir seem to give a new dimension.
Today, at Marijan Arman’s family, you will find a tasting room and a shop, as well as an open terrace where you can enjoy the exclusivity of the wine offer while surrounded by the beautiful Istrian landscape.
